The shed is a ubiquitous accessory in the gardens of detached homes in North America. It describes a common suburban condition in North American cities. By placing one shed upturned against the other in a balancing act, the ideas of densification and sustainability are brought into question and consideration.

Searching Out New Spatial Potential in Inukjuak, Quebec, is our competition entry for the Canadian Centre for Architecture’s 2008 year annual design charette. It makes use of digital coding methodologies to map out new settlements based on factors such as microclimates, context, history, geography, and human settlement patterns.

Wrapping the central pillars of the exhibition space with white fabric at the mcgill school of architecture, this exhibit plays a loop of sound and video to evoke the traditional experience of the middle east. A space for contemplation and for mutual understanding is created.

The entry shows “grown” photographs of notable sustainable buildings in the City of Toronto including the University of Toronto Donnelly Centre for Cellular and Biomolecular Research, St. Gabriel’s Parish in North York, and the Levitt Goodman Architects’ Office and Home in Toronto.

Water and sea level rise calls to attention the need for quality housing that can be built on a time and cost budget. Our entry for this competition proposes a structural framework and typical shipping container units that can be rapidly assembled and deployed in disaster zones.

Trees are more important today than ever before. More than 10,000 products are reportedly made from trees. The tree bar is made out of recycled fabrics and stuffing to call attention to this most important issue of our time.

The wooden pallet can be described as a modern day nomad: it travels as the temporary carrying support for products destined for multiple end users. Our pavilion proposes to make use of the pallet as a building block and planter for a temporary concert pavilion. Once the festival is finished, the pallets would be donated to organizations in Manhattan to be reused and reincorporated into the economic cycle.

We used air as a central element in the design of this temporary structure and pavilion. The semi-transparent ETFE film allows the exterior to feel light while glowing from the inside in the evenings as a beacon and signage.

The Architecture Cafe in McGill University is a well attended and popular location for pastries, snacks, drinks, and coffee. The renovations are a refresh to the space to renew its appearance and upgrade food display of pastries and goods.

My thesis is a reimagining of an underutilized and abandoned railway yard lands in the mile end neighbourhood of montreal. It consists of a new passenger rail station, community facilities, rotating sports fields, and interspersed community gardens. The project is designed to serve as a community hub and gathering space for the neighbourhood.

Sleep Apnea was a competition entry for an art exhibition for Nuit Blanche in Toronto. The exhibit aims to play upon the unique sleeplessness that Toronto experiences during Nuit Blanche by using projections to reconsider issues surrounding sleep, time, and their city at night.

Sukkah City was a competition entry for a tall cylindrical Sukkah in Toronto. A Sukkah is a temporary hut constructed for use during the traditional Jewish festival of Sukkot. Our entry contemplated a cylinder with twisting fabric panels that would have a gradient as it shifted from down to up to create an idea of movement as you walked around the structure. The eye is drawn upward to the sky as one sits in the space of contemplation.
